Kewaunee Inn, formerly the Karsten Inn • Kewaunee, Wi • 04/17/10

On April 17, 2010 the Fox Cities Paranormal Team headed to one of the most famous haunted hotels in the state of Wisconsin, the Kewuanee Inn, formerly the Karsten Inn. We were given a tour of the hot spots and went to work setting up the IR cameras and audio equipment. In addition to the Kewaunee Inn we were given the opportunity to investigate one other buildings under current Kewaunee Inn ownership. The investigation in this building was centered in the basement. The upstairs of the building was once a funeral parlor and the basement served as the morgue.

Our investigation lasted 5 hours yielded little evidence as far as audio and video, but there were some personal experiences that more than made up for it. At the beginning of the evening Cassie saw what she described as a face in the basement of the Kewaunee Inn, where one worker has claimed to be physically held back from going into a room. In the middle of the investigation Jamie saw a shadow dart across the lobby, but we cannot confirm it as being paranormal.

The most impressive personal experience came in the building that once served as a funeral parlor and morgue. Tim, Tony and Todd were doing a final EVP session in the basement, in a room that was the embalming room.

Although we were unable to gather any audio or video evidence, the reaction Tim has after seeing an apparition of a women hanging in the room of a basement once used as an embalming room speaks for itself.

This room was narrower than the other rooms and had a concrete floor that slanted toward an hole in the wall adjacently to a drain. As Todd was panning the room with a flashlight, Tim saw a woman hanging in mid-air about one foot off the ground. He described it this way, "The only way I can describe it is, it looked like she was being drained." He said the woman had red hair, her eyes were closed with dark black circles underneath, and she had on a long white dress with a high neck. Tim was quite shaken. Tim, Todd and Tony returned to the hotel to get two other members of the team, Cassie who is sensitive to spirits and Sharon who is videographer for the group. Upon returning to the building to continue with the EVP session Cassie smelled what she described as the smell of old blood, and she felt the overwhelming feeling of sadness which brought her to tears. Tim was quite moved by the experience asking over and over, "Why did she show herself to me like that?"

Todd went back to the Kewaunee Inn to pick up a black-light. Cassie, Tim and Sharon remained in the morgue area. Shortly after Todd had left the building we all heard heavy footsteps upstairs. We all thought Todd had returned. We called out to him, and did not get a response. We all headed up the stairs expecting to find Todd, and we found the room at the top of the stairs empty and the door to the outside locked. Todd returned a short time later. The footsteps were very loud and lasted for several seconds. After Todd returned we headed back downstairs to complete our final EVP session.

It is an investigation that Tim will not soon forget, nor will the rest of the Fox Cities Paranormal Team. The people at the Kewaunee Inn are very gracious and helpful. The provided us with a wealth of historical information on the history of the Inn, and we are very thankful to them for allowing us to investigate the one of the most beautiful and historic hotels in the state. Thank you so much.

billy karsten tony

This is the lobby of the Kewaunee Inn. Although there was no evidence gathered in this area on this trip, Cassie had a personal experience on Feb. 27, 2010 while sitting at the computer. A saucer lifted and dropped. It was also witnessed by the inn keeper and the owner.

This is Billy Karsten, young grandson of William Karsten original owner of the Kewaunee Inn. Six weeks after the death of William young Billy died. It is reported that you can hear him running on the second floor of the inn, and young children have reported playing with him. Tony during an EVP session in Agatha's room, room 310. Agatha worked at the Karsten Inn in the late 1920s and to mid-1930s. Her spirit is said to have returned to the Karsten Inn to be with the spirit of William Karsten. You can read the story on the Kewaunee Inn website.
